Stock tokenization is not new. Protocols like Backed Finance and Onyx (JPMorgan’s blockchain) have issued regulatory-compliant equity tokens for years. But those are walled gardens—backed by licensed custodians, restricted to accredited investors, and often limited to private placements. Hyperliquid’s approach, if real, would be different: a permissionless DEX offering dividend-bearing equity tokens to anyone who connects a wallet. The “dividend” part is the dagger. Hyperliquid’s user base is primarily derivatives traders—leverage-hungry, risk-tolerant, and often pseudonymous.
